WhatsApp e-Statements at scale.

BrainCrop built Soneri Bank’s WhatsApp e-Statement delivery channel — replacing physical mail-outs across the customer base, cutting paper, and saving millions in monthly operating costs. Production is run jointly with Soneri’s IT operations team; BrainCrop maintains and evolves the system through UAT and Dev.

Paper → Digital
WhatsApp e-Statements replace bulk mail-outs, saving millions in monthly operating costs.
The challenge

Bulk paper mail at scale, in a digital era.

Soneri Bank’s customer base was receiving physical mailed statements every month — a process that consumed paper, postage, fulfillment hours, and operational overhead at scale. Customers were also receiving statements days after the bank generated them, creating service friction and customer support load.

The goal: move statement delivery off paper and onto a channel customers already used every day — WhatsApp — without compromising security, audit-readiness, or the customer’s privacy.

The approach

End-to-end: built, deployed, and operated.

BrainCrop designed and built a WhatsApp-based e-Statement delivery channel in close collaboration with Soneri Bank’s team — enrollment and preference management, encrypted statement attachments, integration with the bank’s statement generation systems, and operating-cost reporting. We continue to maintain and enhance the system after launch.

Production operations are run jointly: Soneri’s IT operations team owns and controls the production environment. BrainCrop has access to push updates, diagnose issues, and ship new features through scheduled releases — with continuous development happening on the UAT and Dev environments. Customers are enrolled by default through the bank’s account terms and conditions, with opt-out available at any time.

What we built

The capabilities running in production.

WhatsApp e-Statement delivery

Direct delivery of statement PDFs to customers’ WhatsApp inboxes — replacing the physical mail pipeline end to end.

Enrollment & preference management

Customers are enrolled by default through the bank’s account terms and conditions. Opt-out preferences are tracked and respected immediately.

Encrypted statement delivery

Statement attachments are encrypted and delivered through secure channels — banking-grade confidentiality, audit-logged.

Bank systems integration

Statements generated by the bank’s core systems are picked up and dispatched through the channel — no manual intervention.

Audit & compliance layer

Every delivery, opt-in, and customer interaction is logged. Audit trails are regulator-ready and retention is policy-controlled.

Production monitoring

Delivery rates, latency, customer support volumes, and operating-cost savings tracked 24/7. Incident diagnostics by BrainCrop, in coordination with Soneri’s IT ops team who owns production.

Results

The shift, as it stands.

Millions

In monthly operating cost savings vs. physical mail.

Paper-free

Statement delivery for opted-in customers.

Minutes

Statement delivery time, down from days.

Live

Running in production, fully operated by BrainCrop.

How it works

The flow, end to end.

  1. 1

    Customer enrolled at account opening

Customers are enrolled in WhatsApp e-Statements by default through Soneri’s account terms and conditions. Opt-out is available at any time via the bank’s customer service channels.

  2. 2

    Statement generated

Soneri’s core systems generate the customer’s monthly statement as usual. The opt-in flag is checked.

  3. 3

    Encrypted handoff to delivery channel

Statement PDFs are encrypted and handed to BrainCrop’s delivery layer with the customer’s verified WhatsApp identifier.

  4. 4

    Delivery through WhatsApp

The encrypted statement is delivered to the customer’s WhatsApp inbox within minutes. Customer can open and view in-place.

  5. 5

    Delivery confirmation & audit log

Delivery status is recorded against the customer’s account. Audit logs capture timing, outcome, and any retries.

  6. 6

    Continuous monitoring & joint operations

Production is run jointly with Soneri’s IT operations team — they own and control the production environment. BrainCrop maintains and evolves the system through UAT and Dev, pushes updates via scheduled releases, and diagnoses incidents in coordination with the bank’s team. Delivery rates, latency, and cost-savings are tracked and reported monthly.
